My Story Starts Here...
Over 20 years ago, I got a Fine Arts Degree from BYU. My emphasis was in the human figure and portrait painting. Back then, I painted only in oils and used very fine, tiny brushes. My paintings looked like perfect, “soul-less” photographs. I felt like telling my clients to just grab a camera!
I was bored.
So, very bored of making perfect paintings for people who wanted to look 10 years younger and 10 pounds lighter. 

I felt like poking my eyes out with my tiny sable brushes. 
My soul yearned to grab some palette knives and to just let go! 

I wanted something more…something emotional and expressive. 
But most of all...I wanted painting to be fun!
It was when I was in Amsterdam, at the Van Gogh Art Museum that I felt my world shift.

Those colors! That texture! How did he paint it on so thick, I wondered? 

I couldn’t wait to get back to my studio to try to paint with some texture!
The moment I returned home, I went to the art store and bought a whole assortment of palette knives. I had never used a palette knife before, but I knew that was the only way to build up texture on a painting.

It was slow going at first. I hated each and every one of my paintings. Not only was I switching from brushes to palette knives, but I was also changing from portraits to landscapes! My mind was in a whirl.
But I was determined. 
Slowly, I started to get the hang of it. My paintings began to suck less and less until finally, I had one that I sorta liked.

Now, after all these years, I’ve perfected painting with palette knives and my original pieces hang in homes and galleries all over the world.
