Welcome Dabbler! Below is a list of my favorite Art Supplies used in our Club classes. These are ALL the colors we use for our monthly Course Paintings and weekly Fun Fridays!

Ready to Create Bold Textures?

Start with the Right Canvas!

While it might be tempting to cut corners on canvas quality, I highly recommend investing in a good one – even if you’re just starting out. Cheaper canvases can be tricky to work with: they often warp, require additional layers of gesso, and don’t hold up well to the heavy texture we’ll be using. Instead, I suggest opting for a Level 3 canvas like “The Edge” canvas or the "Artist’s Loft" brand you can get from Michaels. They’re both triple-primed and ready to paint, with sturdy stretcher bars that ensure it won’t warp over time. You can find the "Artist Loft" canvases at your local Michaels or you can order "The Edge" canvases from the Amazon link below, and have them shipped to you directly.

Order Acrylic Paint?

My top recommendation is DabblePaints™!- a line I designed specifically for palette knife painters. You’ll love its creamy, smooth texture, which is perfect for creating thick, textured layers. Plus, it’s professional-grade quality at student-grade pricing!

Need A Palette?

This convenient disposable palette is perfect for mixing paint colors and makes clean-up quick and easy!

Looking for a Non-Disposable Palette?

I recommend this durable glass palette, crafted from 1/8” tempered glass for strength and safety. It includes a set of four corner guards for added protection and traction.

When it’s time to clean up, dried acrylic paint peels off easily, allowing you to save those colorful “skins” for our Post-Palette Art series. This palette helps you keep all those amazing leftover paint scrapings for future creative projects!

Do You Have an Easel Yet?

If you’re serious about painting, it’s worth investing in a quality easel! Having the ability to easily adjust the height of your canvas will save your back and make your painting experience much more comfortable. I also recommend choosing an easel with casters, so you can move it around effortlessly. Here’s one that I personally recommend:

Sponge

Don’t Forget the Sponge!

A cellulose sponge is one of my go-to tools for quickly mapping in backgrounds with ease. It’s a time-saving trick we use in every painting! We also rely on sponges for various painting techniques, so it’s a good idea to stock up. You can find them at any grocery or home improvement store, but for convenience, I’ve included an Amazon link to a high-quality sponge. It’s durable and can be reused multiple times – just rinse it out after each use and moisten it lightly before you start painting.

Kirkland Baby Wipes

Don’t Forget the Baby Wipes!

Trust me, you’ll want a good supply of baby wipes on hand – they’re a studio essential! I swear by Kirkland Baby Wipes (I’ve tried them all, and these are the best). They’re perfect for everything from cleaning your hands and palette knives to creating special effects like soft clouds. You can grab a case during your next Costco run or conveniently order them online.
